Fantasmas — Ethereal Floral & Atmospheric Perfume Oil

Fantasmas means “ghosts.”

This perfume was created for the moment at the heart of Día de los Muertos when remembrance becomes something more than looking backward—the idea that, for a little while, the dead come home.

Not as something frightening.

As family.

Fantasmas is the most atmospheric fragrance in the collection: cool night air, pale flowers, damp earth, soft woods, and the faintest trace of smoke left behind by candles and incense. It is meant to feel like stepping outside late at night and sensing that the space around you isn't quite empty.

The fragrance opens almost weightlessly with ozone, aldehydes, and cool salted air. Lily of the valley and freesia emerge through the center like pale flowers appearing out of darkness. Beneath them, damp earth, moss, cedar, sandalwood, and amber slowly bring warmth back into the fragrance.

Finally, there is smoke—but only barely.

Not a bonfire. Not something burning.

Just the lingering trace of a candle recently extinguished.

The result is ethereal, floral, cool, earthy, and strangely comforting.

Fantasmas isn't meant to smell like a haunted house.

Fantasmas begins cool and airy, with an almost translucent quality. Ozone and aldehydes create the impression of night air while sea salt adds a mineral edge.

Heart:
Lily of the Valley • Freesia • Green Notes

Soft white florals begin to appear through the atmospheric opening. Lily of the valley and freesia keep the fragrance delicate and spectral rather than lush or traditionally perfumed.

Base:
Damp Earth • Moss • Amber • Sandalwood • Cedar • Faint Smoke

As the fragrance settles, it becomes warmer and more grounded. Earth and moss suggest the ground beneath the flowers, while amber, sandalwood, and cedar give the fragrance a quiet warmth. A restrained trace of smoke lingers at the very bottom.

The Inspiration

Día de los Muertos is built around an extraordinary idea: the people we have lost are still worth preparing for.

We clean the space.

We arrange the flowers.

We light the candles.

We put out photographs and the things they loved.

We speak their names.

And within the tradition, the dead are welcomed back to visit the living.

Fantasmas was created around the feeling of that return.

I didn't want ghosts rendered as something sinister or frightening. The figures that inspired this perfume are the people whose photographs sit on the altar—the grandmother whose recipes are still made, the grandfather whose stories everyone knows, the relatives whose faces resemble our own, and the generations whose names may be harder to remember but whose existence made ours possible.

So the fragrance begins almost without substance: air, atmosphere, pale flowers.

Then slowly, it becomes warmer.

Earth. Wood. Amber. Smoke.

Almost as though something intangible has stepped a little closer.

Not every ghost is something to fear. Some of them are simply someone you miss.

How to Wear

Apply Fantasmas to pulse points such as the wrists and neck and allow it to warm naturally against the skin.

Perfume oils wear closer to the body than traditional alcohol-based fragrances, which suits Fantasmas particularly well. Rather than filling a room, the fragrance stays nearer to the wearer and changes as its cooler atmospheric notes give way to flowers, earth, woods, and amber.

This fragrance is especially suited to lovers of atmospheric perfumes, unusual florals, ozonic fragrances, earthy scents, ghostly or liminal fragrances, and indie perfumes that create a place or feeling rather than simply smelling “pretty.”

About This Collection

This collection is for everyone. You do not have to be Mexican or Hispanic to honor your dead, remember the people you love, or find meaning in these traditions. But being welcomed into another culture comes with a responsibility to respect it—to learn where these traditions come from, honor the people who have carried them, listen to and elevate the voices of those within that culture, and embrace the culture rather than separating the beautiful parts from the people they belong to.
