Cempasúchil is a ritual oil created for guidance, welcoming, spiritual pathways, and illuminating the road between those who remember and those who are remembered. Inspired by the role of cempasúchil during Día de los Muertos, this formula centers the flower itself—its color, scent, and enduring symbolism as a beacon laid along the path home.

During Día de los Muertos, cempasúchil is used on ofrendas and arranged in petals and pathways as part of welcoming the dead. Its brilliant orange color and powerful fragrance have become some of the most recognizable elements of the holiday, symbolically helping guide visiting loved ones toward the offerings prepared for them.

Cempasúchil was created around that idea of making the path visible.

The formula combines genuine cempasúchil petals with road-opening, protective, aromatic, and devotional botanicals and pure Tagetes essential oil, allowing the flower to remain unmistakably at the center of both the magical formula and its fragrance.

Featured ingredients include Cempasúchil Petals, Abre Camino, Orange Peel, Star Anise, Rosemary, and Copal.

Cempasúchil stands at the center of the formula, connecting the oil directly to the flower so closely associated with Día de los Muertos and the symbolic pathways created to welcome the dead.

Abre Camino supports the opening and clearing of roads, while orange peel adds warmth and brightness to the work. Star anise reinforces the formula's focus on direction and spiritual navigation, rosemary supports remembrance and protection, and copal brings a sacred, devotional quality to the blend.

Scent Profile

There is no elaborate fragrance accord hiding behind the flower in this oil.

The fragrance is created with pure Tagetes essential oil, allowing the distinctive aroma of cempasúchil itself to remain the focus.

Fragrance Note: Cempasúchil / Tagetes

Overall Scent: Strongly aromatic, green, herbaceous, floral, earthy, and slightly sharp. Tagetes does not smell like a soft traditional floral; its character is vivid and unmistakably botanical, capturing the pungent green-floral quality of the living plant rather than a sweet interpretation of marigold.

How to Use

As an anointing and ritual oil:

Use Cempasúchil to dress candles, petitions, appropriate altar tools, remembrance objects, and ritual work centered on guidance, spiritual pathways, beloved dead, ancestors, and Día de los Muertos.

When preparing an ofrenda or remembrance altar, it may be used to anoint appropriate objects or candles as part of intentionally creating a welcoming pathway toward the space.

For spiritual-pathway work, state clearly who or what the pathway is intended for and where it leads. The purpose of this oil is to illuminate and welcome—not to indiscriminately open spiritual doors.

For remembrance and Día de los Muertos:

Use alongside photographs, candles, food, flowers, water, incense, and other offerings chosen for the person being remembered. It can accompany prayer, storytelling, altar preparation, or the simple act of sitting with the memory of someone you love.
